There are many forms of business and permanent visa open to qualified job seekers looking to live and work in Australia on a long term basis. One of the more common forms is the Standard Business Sponsorship (Class 457) Visa.
The Standard Business Sponsorship (457) Visa allows visa holders to work for an employer for a period of between 3 months and 4 years and also allows visa holders to nominate a family member/members to live and work freely in Australia for the duration of the visa. Standard Business Visa holders who meet the minimum requirements are also eligible to apply for Permanent Residency of Australia at the end of the 4 year visa. To secure this visa class, applicants can be inside or outside Australia when applying but may not commence work in Australia until the visa has been granted.
There are 2 methods to securing this visa:
- Being sponsored by an organisation
- Being Sponsored by a management company.
Sponsorship consists of the sponsoring party nominating the applicant as a skilled business person who can bring value to an organisation and the Australian business community in general. Applicants must also meet the minimum salary threshold of $57,300 for ICT applicants and $41,850 for non ICT applicants.
When sponsored for a Standard Business Sponsorship Visa by an employer, the employer will normally pay all relevant application costs. However, under this means of sponsorship, the employee is required by the terms of the visa to remain with the organisation for a minimum period of 2 years. Failure to meet this and other requirements will result in the cancellation of the visa.
